Trump Speech a Lost Opportunity
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight in Phoenix, Donald Trump outlined an immigration policy focused almost entirely on enforcement and would require every immigrant here without authorization to leave: government removal for criminals and self-deportation for everyone else.
A Fox News poll today indicates that 77 percent of Americans support creating a way for immigrants to earn legalization. Only 19 percent preferred deportation.
“This speech was a lost opportunity,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum Action Fund. “Trump could have relied on data to paint a new picture. Instead he continued to fearmonger and scapegoat.
“America is better than Donald Trump’s vehemence toward immigrants.”
