Trump: New Talking Points, No Details

WASHINGTON, D.C. — For 14 months, Donald Trump has made anti-immigrant rhetoric the centerpiece of his campaign.

Now, suddenly, where he stands on immigration has become a moving target — although key conservatives are hoping that he is “seeing the light,” in the words of Erick Erickson today.

“Trump is raising more questions than he is answering,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum Action Fund. “This could be the beginning of a sea change in the GOP if Trump follows through with written policy. But that is a huge ‘if.’ ”

“Conservative leaders across the country support clear principles regarding immigrants and immigration. The campaign is trying out new talking points. We await details.”

Conservative faith, law enforcement and business leaders also are available for comment.
