Noorani: Trump Response Is Dangerous and Un-American

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The following is a statement from Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum Action Fund:

“As Americans reel from the Orlando terror attack, Donald Trump responded in a manner that is un-American and dangerous and fuels the flames of hate and intolerance. Responsible leaders do not react to fear by creating more fear.

“Let’s be clear: What Trump proposed, if taken seriously, could lead to mass deportations, the creation of internment camps, curtailing of religious freedom, and the suspension of civil liberties.

“In a time when Americans should be uniting in the face of a tragedy and seeking real solutions to keep all Americans safe, Trump demonizes and scapegoats and proposes solutions that play on our emotions when we are most vulnerable.

“The three million Muslim Americans in the U.S. are our friends, our neighbors, our classmates. They patrol our streets, serve in the military and make many other valuable contributions to our communities.

“Donald Trump’s patently false and stunningly misleading claims go against the values we hold dear, and they would hurt the country that he claims he wants to protect.”
